A Government supplied book that is very thorough, goes into genetic detail, but is in black and white
There are many other books available better suited for crafts people. The Encyclopedia of wood is a good reference text for forestry students or those wishing to learn about the scientific aspects of many wood species. For those wanting reference material for wood working it is too technical.
I was sorely disappointed. Warning: this is not an encyclopedia of boners. The title is misleading.
The USDA Encyclopedia of Wood has a tremendous amount of information on wood, and is a very good buy for the price.
